No Place for Play Like Rebel Yell

Notice Addison in her panties...she thinks she doesn't have to wear clothes in the country! This is how I she's dressed half the time I pick her up from Rebel Yell!

Gearing Up for a Family Gathering

Mammaw and Pappaw Conerly will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, so we're having a family celebration for them at Rebel Yell on Saturday. It will be a day filled with food, fun and fellowship. Part of planning a family event is preparing your home, so my mom and dad have been putting the finishing touches on Rebel Yell over the past couple of months. Back in July, they had to completely redo all of their hardwood floors because of some warping problems. It was a mess, but the new Bella wood is down and so far, so good. Daddy has also poured a couple of sidewalks and planted some dwarf azalea bushes in the front. He has cleaned out the daylily beds and is working on the landscaping around the sides of the house as well. And no front porch in the country would be complete without rocking chairs for both grandparents and small ones for the grandkids! Here are a few pics...excuse the color as these were taken from my phone.

Daylilies....Oh, How I Love Thee!

At the end of May each year, Rebel Yell begins its transformation into a field of color as my grandmother's daylilies bloom in vibrant shades of yellow, pink, orange, peach and red. There's something about those flowers that take me to a happy place. My grandmother raised daylilies for many years until they became too much for her to take care of. She handed down her prized flowers, many of them her own hybrid creations, to my mother and me along with other friends and family. The majority of them now soak up the sun at Rebel Yell and we have all enjoyed watching them grow. Pumpkin Kid remains my all-time favorite. Just seeing its orange petals with pinkish-red throat reminds me of summer. They're so beautiful that I even used several pictures of them in my cookbook. Aren't they gorgeous?

The House is Good and Warm Now

We had a great time Sunday afternoon celebrating the completion of Rebel Yell with a housewarming for my parents. All of our family and friends came to take the tour and enjoy some home cooked goodies. Thanks to everyone who helped "warm" mama and daddy's new home!

The house passed inspection and moving officially began on Tuesday evening. We celebrated with a spaghetti supper in the new house even though there were only a few pots and pans and couple of boxes of dishes unpacked. There's still some touch-up paint work that has to be done, blinds that have to be installed, lots of construction clean-up, and even more moving and unpacking, but the end is definitely in sight and just in time for 2009! Happy New Year from Rebel Yell!
